Algebra 1 Honors is a math course for 8th graders. This course uses the state standards for Algebra 1, typically a 9th grade course. The standards can be found at the State Department website
Algebra 1 Honors students will complete the state End of Course Exam at the end of the year. This exam will count towards 20% of their final grade.
Interim and Report Card grades are calculated as follows:
Tests - 40%
Quizzes and Classwork - 30%
Homework - 10%
Exams - 20%
Please expect homework nightly. Homework is meant to reinforce concepts learned in the day's lesson. Students have a hard time doing well in class when they don't practice what they've learned everyday. A great way to learn math is to try to teach it to someone else. Allow your student to teach you what we've done in class that day. It will reinforce what they know and what they need to ask questions about to clarify the next day.
