For over a month, the students in Mrs. Welch's fifth grade class have been patiently awaiting an arrival, and now their eggs have successfully hatched. The students are celebrating the addition of seven new class members.
The class has been working as part of the Clemson Extension Classroom Chicken Project. Faith Truesdale, a director with the Florence County Clemson Extension, provided an incubator and eight fertilized chicken eggs for the students to study. The class learned about the incubation and hatching process while enjoying the opportunity to read to the future chickens as the incubator stayed in the class reading area. We are happy to report the arrival of seven healthy chickens, each one a different breed. Thanks to the Clemson Extension Office and Mrs. Welch for providing this hands-on learning experience.
