As a community service project, Hannah-Pamplico Elementary/Middle School has adopted Meyerland PVA Middle School in Houston, Texas. Hurricane Harvey caused massive damage and flooding to many homes and schools in the Houston area. The students at HPEM decided to do something to help out. During the month of September, each grade level at HPEM collected specific school supplies to be donated to Meyerland PVA Middle School. The citizens of Pamplico and surrounding communities have also rallied to collect school supplies, and local businesses have made monetary donations to support the project. HPEM has collected approximately thirty shipping cartons of school supplies for the students and staff of Meyerland.
A local shipper has donated the shipping expenses to transport these items to Houston. The supplies were sent out on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at 9:30 a. m. during a send-off ceremony at the school.
